With the end of the school year fast approaching comes summer internship season. Many students are hoping to land their perfect internship. However, for many University of Oregon students and other quarter-system students, some internships may be impossible to attain.
THE DARK REALITY OF SEASONAL affective disorder
On Thursday, December 21, 2022, in Eugene, Oregon, the sun rose at 7:44 a.m. and set at 4:36 p.m. The sun was only out for eight hours and 52 minutes; six hours and 37 minutes shorter than the longest day of the year, June 21st. That morning, University of Oregon student, Mira Eagan, recalls lying in her warm and cozy bed unable to gather up the motivation to get up and start her day.

HOOKUP CULTURE: THE GOOD? THE BAD AND THE UGLY
Hookup culture is the reverse of the real-world dating game. Participants take a test-run of the sexual side of their potential romantic partner before deciding whether to commit. Instead of taking partners out on dates, individuals take each other home for the night and may never speak again.
THE HIDDEN WORLD OF SPEAKEASIES
After muttering a password through a mail slot, you step through a grocery store “employees only” door. But past the door, you’re met with the sight of walls draped in red velvet, cocktails lit by candlelight, and the sound of a faint jazz soundtrack. Suddenly, you feel a part of a mysterious society, one you had never thought about or even considered before: the hidden world of speakeasies.

The phrase “it’s not alcoholism until you graduate” is popular among college students. It means students’ alcoholic-like behaviors are acceptable while in college because they see it as an appropriate time for overconsumption.
NOT YOUR TYPICAL DOC: DR. DANA BRANER
Growing up, Dr. Dana Braner dreamed of becoming a comedian. His father, a used car salesman, loved comedy and so Braner set out to become one, even going so far as to major in drama in college. Today, Braner, the physician-in-chief at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, spends his off time performing at improv nights and flying a plane painted like a killer whale.
